Ready for ISO 16890

The human body absorbs a large amount of particles and dusts through the respiratory air. Especially small particles can pass through the alveoli into the bloodstream and organs. While processing materials such as metal, plastic or wood, harmful substances can be produced and must be safely extracted and filtered.

So-called „particulate air filters for general ventilation technology" have been tested in Europe according to the EN779 and been divided into filter classifications of G1-F9. Since January 2017 exists the new standard ISO16890, which will completely replace the EN779 at the 30.06.2018.

With the new ISO, filters are divided into four groups according to particle sizes and are stated with the respective degree of separation (%). In addition to the particulate air filters, the new standard also rates coarse dust filters (ISO coarse), which captures less than 50% of the PM10 dust.

To represent a real operating behavior of the filters, the measuring method for evaluating the degree of separation also changes: The degree of separation is not determined via the average efficiency after loading with test dust (0.4 μm) as before. Now the fractional separation efficiency of the particles is measured after a 24h IPA treatment. Furthermore, according to ISO 16890 particles in the range of 0.3 to 10 μm are tested to obtain differentiated results on the behavior of different particle sizes. Therefore, the new evaluation method creates practical values, as well as facilitates the targeted design of extraction systems and filters for the respective application.
While planning our extraction systems, we pay high attention to the best quality of the individual components and, in addition to the ISO16890, also comply with the EN1822 for submicron particles which are resulting for example while working with stainless steel.
